Great game! I like how you're forced to make educated guesses; it's about minimizing losses, opening up the playing field to be able to deduce how dangerous surrounding tiles can be, doing the maximum amount of damage each time before either upgrading or picking up a healing scroll (at least if you want to clear the whole board). The idea of being a dungeon crawler who doesn't know what danger surrounds him fits the vibe of the gameplay really well.
Some upgrades to the game that could be useful would be the abilities to:
- lock a tile from being clicked (I first wanted to save the lovers but accidentally killed one later in the game because I had 9 hearts left that I wanted to use because I was already able to upgrade, at that point I had been staring at the game for so long that I forgot about the achievement, it was a bit of a bummer)
- color group tiles and give that color a number (sometimes you know the value of a group of tiles but not of each individual tiles, keeping track of those groups can be overwhelming)
-add "lesser than" or "greater than" signs to tiles, next to a number (sometimes I knew tiles couldn't be certain values without knowing what value they were precisely; these signs would've been helpful then)
- need a double click before damaging a tile (it's easy to accidentally click once, which could lead to an immediate game over); this could be something player could adjust in the settings.
- block a player from damaging a tile if it is either known that they would die from that action (because the underlying monster was already revealed at some point) or when the player has already filled in a number on the tile that's higher than their current amount of hearts. (I lost a long run because of not looking to well at the damage numbers compared to my current amount of hearts; I already had more than 13 heart slots and was trying to see if I could clear the board entirely; a stupid mistake came with a big loss)
Otherwise, awesome game already, I will try it out again in the future.
If you loved this game as much as I did and wished for more, come try out our version that was heavily inspired by this masterpiece! It has more enemies, levels, items, and achievements!
-The Dragon always spawns in the middle column fifth row from the top
-The Dragon Egg is always adjacent to the Dragon orthogonally or diagonally
-The Wizard is always on the edge of the map surrounded by five purple slimes. It is possible for one of those slimes to spawn in the corner of the map.
-The lovers Romeo and Juliet spawn in the same row "mirrored" along the middle column. They can also spawn in corners.
-Why talk about corners so much though? Well, the Mine King always spawns in a random corner of the map, and determining which of the four corners has him is very important in 365/most health runs.
-Each of the four Guardians (7 health enemies) spawns in a region of the map divided by the Dragon's row and column. Therefore, Guardians cannot spawn in the Dragon's row and column and no two Guardians can appear in the same "sector" of the map.
-All Minotaurs and Chests on the map are adjacent to each other. This pattern can be helpful in finding the Mimic, although the Mimic can spawn adjacent to Minotaurs along with their Chests.
-Gargoyles and Walls spawn in orthogonally-adjacent pairs. Gargoyles in pairs will also face towards one another. The pairs of Gargoyles can be adjacent to one another while the walls cannot.
-If a Rat is in the same column as the Rat King, it will be sitting. Otherwise it will be standing and will "face" toward the column where the Rat King resides.
-To find the Gnome, the player must simply uncover every blank tile on the map.
-The beginning tile with the blue orb or whatever it's called cannot spawn in the outer two rows/columns of the map such that it will always reveal its full area when interacting with it.
-On the other hand, the acroll that reveals a random 3x3 area on the map can reveal an area centered on the map's edge, making it less useful.
-Everything else is random bullcrap go
Feel free to correct me in the comments or add additional information. Hope this is helpful!
Per Scattrd below, hearts never spawn within 2 squares of each other Also wall sections never appear in the corner. I think the larger pattern is that they never appear with both pieces on the border.
And minor correction, Minotaurs and chests are adjacent to the left or right, but never above or below each other.
Something I noticed is that minotaurs always face away from the treasures they guard. If the treasure is to their left (directly or diagonally), they'll face the right and vice versa.
I think the theoretical maximum is 13 hearts remaining. This is pretty unrealistic though as you have to find the 3 gold treasure chests + the egg + the elf before using your first Heart Scroll. The elf would be nearly impossible to find by this point.
A more realistic maximum is probably: a) find the 3 chests + egg before using your first Heart Scroll, and b) finding the elf at the same time as you kill the Mine King & all mines. In that case the maximum would be 11 hearts remaining.
Yeah I got lucky hunting for the minotaurs and finding the gold bearing ones first! Perhaps the right question would be what's the worst luck you can have and if the 365 score is still possible in that case. It probably has already been calculated to be true.
I've used the cheat code to max it, and yea, it's 13 hearts. Been playing this game almost daily for 9+ to 10+ months now (depending on weither you count v.1 or not) and 9 IS a very good score. Best i've ever gotten without cheating was 10, and I only did it once.
The real shockers, the best games as it were, are when you have exactly 3 hearts left and there is exactly one bricks left, skin of the teeth, so satisfying
I saw two fours not facing one another. The four on the left and directly below the dragon was inside my starting orb of clairvoyance if that makes a difference.
Anyone find a pattern or something special about the 2s or 3s? I've found something for all the other numbers (including the 7s - hint look at the dot on the shield).
HOLY FUCKING SHIT!!!!! you are right. I've been playing this game CONSTANTLY since January, and I never notices that.
YES, there are 4 Guardians (Hp/EXP 7) and I have only now, thanls to you, I see that they show their place in in the grid on their shields..... So I assume there is only one per quadrant.
I'm gonna play with this and see if there's a pattern,
And no, the 2s and 3s seem to be the only random pieces, or perhaps there is someone out there who will find the patern and we will all go "WOW, YOU IS RIGHT"
I noticed some comments about the gnome, but I do not understand his purpose. It looks like all he does is obscure a tile until you click on him to move him. Could someone explain what he does?
Yea, kinda. Here;s a few hints. I'll put them in ROT13 so you can decide if you wana read them or not.

And that's about all there is to learn about this amazing game. Everything else is a matter of a little luck, a lot of math, and a bold attitude. My advice is to go random to start, throw a few randoms and if you get lucky (4 or 5 revealing squares, hitting the wizard r rat king first shot, ect.....) THEN use the orb and play more cautious from there, but you do you.

And done.

After months and months of daily playing this, I finally reached the max pontuation. I must confess: I cried.

ALL MONSTER PATTERNS (spoilers)

Nice game!
Managed to get 365 points with 9 hearts remaining (without resorting to luck). What's the maximum?
I was super curious about the same question.

that's weird. Must be a glitch. Thanks for screen shotting, otherwize it'd be hard to believe
my pb. 4:14
i love this game so much, i play it at least twice a day
Loved it!
also small pattern, hearts never spawn within 2 squares of eachother
Another small pattern : In addition to walls coming in pairs, I've never seen a wall piece in the corner.
What a good game, GG
Got all compatible achievements!
this is amazing
Fantastic! Such a novel take on an old game
thank you dev for such fun game.
Is the achievement tracking part of the downloadable version, the browser version, or both?
Ok so I found out that the guide has two more pages, and you can break the walls (not recommended until the end)
sorry I didnt see your comment. The downloadable version didnt work for me.
my PB (5:53)
new PB (4:44)
Amazing game!!
Anyone find a pattern or something special about the 2s or 3s? I've found something for all the other numbers (including the 7s - hint look at the dot on the shield).

And no, the 2s and 3s seem to be the only random pieces, or perhaps there is someone out there who will find the patern and we will all go "WOW, YOU IS RIGHT"
AND mines, mines seem to have no patern
whats the pattern for every number?
Aditionally, the guardians cannot be in the center column, I think.
I noticed some comments about the gnome, but I do not understand his purpose. It looks like all he does is obscure a tile until you click on him to move him. Could someone explain what he does?
So he hides in empty spaces. When there are no more empty spaces (question marks included btw) and you find the last one he will be worth 9 EXP gems
Interesting, so he sounds like a critical late game loot that you need if you want to reveal the entire map
Yea, kinda. Here;s a few hints. I'll put them in ROT13 so you can decide if you wana read them or not.
