I have been absolutely obsessed with this game over the past couple of weeks. The deeper you get into it the more little tricks you find!!! ough it's just so good and so well made.
I finally got a perfect run: A full-clear with 13 hearts leftover at the end! That can only happen if you do not use any health refills until you've looted all treasure chests, picked up the gnome, and killed the Mine King and cleared out all mines. It took many attempts, and more than a few... educated guesses? You'll need to take some risks to do this, but usually just inferring which squares are most likely to be chests without actually seeing the minotaurs.

Finally got the max score after 4 days. Great game!
CHECKMATE
What does the tiny little garden-gnome guy do? That's the one thing I haven't been able to figure out.
I think you need to find it a number of times before it gives u the 9 xp. It jumps around to a different location everytime u find it
he hides in empty spaces, if there are any empty spaces when you find him he moves, if there are no more empties he will turn into 9 exp instead.
